How to choose live music for a wedding in Greece

A band, orchestra or small ensemble should fit the venue, schedule and guests. Compare genuine live performances and request a proposal that separates performance, production, travel and timing.

Match the line-up to each part of the day

Decide whether you want live music for the ceremony, drinks, dinner or dancing. A solo instrument, acoustic ensemble and full band create different experiences and need different amounts of space and production.

Review recent live performances

Ask for footage with a real audience and the same musician line-up being proposed. Assess vocals, sound, interaction, transitions and range rather than relying on studio recordings.

Agree repertoire and pacing

Share must-play and do-not-play choices while discussing how much flexibility the musicians need to read the room. Confirm special arrangements, rehearsals, Greek traditions and music during breaks.

Confirm production and venue limits

Identify who supplies sound, lighting, a technician, staging and weather protection. The venue should approve power, access, sound-check times, volume limits and the finish time.

Record personnel and destination terms

The contract should name the line-up, performance schedule, breaks, setup, substitution, overtime and cancellation terms. For islands, include transport for people and equipment plus accommodation.

Frequently asked questions about wedding bands in Greece

What is the difference between a wedding band and an orchestra?

Businesses use the terms differently. Focus on the number and role of musicians, instruments, vocals, repertoire and performance schedule written into the proposal.

Can we hire only a violinist or saxophonist for part of the wedding?

Yes, many musicians offer a focused ceremony, drinks or entrance performance. Confirm timing, accompaniment, equipment and whether coordination with a DJ or another ensemble is required.

Can a band perform both Greek and international music?

It depends on its repertoire and line-up. Request live examples in the genres you want and discuss how traditional Greek, modern Greek and international music will flow together.

Can the musicians learn a special song?

Often they can if it is agreed early and suits the instruments. Ask whether a new arrangement, additional rehearsal or fee is required and confirm the version they will perform.

Who provides sound, lighting and staging?

The musicians, venue or an external production supplier may provide them. The proposal should allocate equipment, technician, sound check, power, staging and outdoor weather protection.

What plays during the band’s breaks?

A playlist or DJ can cover breaks, but this is not always included. Agree the number and length of breaks, the music source and who manages each transition.

Are there extra costs for an island or remote wedding?

Travel for people and equipment, ferry or flight tickets, road costs and accommodation may apply. Provide the venue and access schedule so the final proposal covers the whole journey.

How should we compare live-music proposals?

Compare the same line-up, timing, breaks, repertoire, production, technician, travel, overtime and taxes. Review current live footage of the proposed musicians and all contract terms.
